Transforming A 1950s Rambler With Kitchen Remodeling

Twin Cities homeowners have often faced the common challenge of an outdated, cramped, and closed-off kitchen with minimal storage. Despite these limitations, the owners of this classic 1950s rambler in Inver Grove Heights loved their neighborhood and wanted to stay in the area and still get the most out of their home.

The solution came in the form of a thoughtful kitchen remodel that reimagined the existing space to better suit their needs. We crafted a modern kitchen within the original bounds of the room with a much more open feel.

The reconfigured peninsula on one end was designed to provide additional countertop space and improve the flow of the room, while removing the walls around the closed stairwell and replacing them with a railing opened up the other side of the kitchen. By borrowing space from a nearby closet, we were able to incorporate a sliding barn door pantry, creating a stylish and functional storage solution.

Custom cabinetry and clever storage solutions ensured that every inch of the remodel was optimized. Other stunning additions like an extra wide gas stove, a built-in pot filler, and a farm basin sink brought the kitchen into the 21st century, allowing the homeowners to fully enjoy the luxury of their new kitchen.

As experienced Twin Cities contractors, we were able to craft a brand new kitchen fully within the given footprint by making clever and efficient use of space. This transformation underscored how a strategic remodel can make it possible for homeowners to improve their living spaces while remaining in the neighborhood they love.

Basement Remodeling Dream Space With A Custom Home Builder

Inver Grove Heights is home to one of our favorite transformative basement remodeling projects in the Twin Cities. We took the basement of this former foreclosure home and turned it into a spectacular home bar, lounge, and entertainment space where anyone would love to spend their nights and weekends.

Basement remodeling contractors face many challenges like we did here, including inefficient HVAC, backed up plumbing, and outdated electrical which were holding the place back from being a comfortable and efficient element of the house. This basement remodel was a comprehensive transformation, turning a neglected space into a stunning, multi-functional area.

The vision for the space included creating a welcoming gathering spot, an entertaining area with rustic-industrial charm, a new bedroom and bathroom for a college student, a dedicated game room, and multiple zones for socializing and relaxation. We were able to execute on all of these and give these Inver Grove Heights homeowners a spectacular new living space that met all of their needs.

Structural changes were needed to seamlessly integrate the new bar into the existing layout of the basement, which were accomplished with heavy duty footings and reclaimed wood hand-hewn beams for support. Reclaimed wood box beams and planks from Manomin Resawn TImbers were used throughout the basement remodel, along with blackened steel panels with inlaid brass to provide a unique industrial-chic flair to the entire area.

Reclaimed wood shelves and paneling fill out the niches on either side. Leather furniture fills in the space with a double window on the remaining wall.

The gorgeous bar area connects seamlessly with spaces for gaming and relaxing, with a cozy, rustic lounge taking up one end of the basement. We used more reclaimed wood for the shelving, paneling and Mantels to create a comforting and cohesive design that is as warm as the brand new Simplifire Scion electric fireplace.

A bright new bedroom completed this Inver Grove Heights basement remodel, providing a much needed private living area for one of the family members. The inviting new space came along with a roomy en suite full bathroom with a walk-in shower, an extra wide vanity, and a rustic, wood toned aesthetic to match the rest of the level.

Twin Cities Contractors Reimagine An Empty Nest In Inver Grove Heights

This 2000-built Inver Grove heights home already had great potential with its tall ceilings, stunning backyard views, and an open floor plan. However, after raising two children, the space had become worn and outdated.

With one child in college and another graduating soon, the homeowners decided it was time to modernize their home, making it more functional and inviting for family gatherings during holidays and special occasions.

The owners had initially reached out to GNB for a new fireplace feature wall in the living room, but after meeting with us, the vision for the remodel expanded. The existing fireplace wasn’t centered, so resituating it provided the opportunity to pull the whole unit forward and create room for decorative shelving and unique, built-in cabinetry.

The new six-foot fireplace that we installed took its spot as the new centerpiece for the entire home, with an extra long shiplap panel surround mimicking the look of the unit itself. With reclaimed wood floating shelves from Manomin Resawn Timbers taking each flank, the new hearth is able to boast the minimalist modern aesthetic, while maintaining a distinct character.

Floating shelves made from reclaimed wood fill out either side. Red oak hardwood floors contrast the white walls on the sides of the room.

On top of the living room remodel, the kitchen was feeling too dark and crowded, so to enhance the flow between the kitchen and family room, new red oak hardwood flooring was added and the existing floors were refinished, seamlessly connecting the spaces. This led to a more involved kitchen remodel to brighten up the room and improve its functionality.

We were able to salvage the existing maple cabinets in the kitchen, finishing them in beautiful enamel that brings more light to the room and makes the space feel bigger. A white, herringbone subway tile backsplash contributes to this effect and brings a clean feeling to the project.

Lighting was another game-changer for this main level remodel that had been suffering from a lack of natural light. New fixtures were added throughout the entire first floor, providing much needed area lighting as well as beautiful decorative pieces to catch your eye.

This remodel shows the impressive transformation that can be done with a custom home builder in Inver Grove Heights. By repurposing materials and bringing design and purpose to the layout, we were able to give these homeowners an inviting space to welcome their family while staying well within budget.
